EXPLAINING WHY 

My name is Ryan Stinger

For the last 13 years I have worked at the Conservative Party, most recently as the longest serving Chief of Staff to the CEO and Chairman at the Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ).

I had an incredible front row seat on the front line of British politics having worked under five Conservative Prime Ministers and six Leaders of the Conservative Party. In my most recent role, I was the Chief of Staff to two Chief Executive Officers and nine Chairman of the Conservative Party. Since the age of 18 I have worked on every UK election campaign, with a mixed set of results and most recently dealt with crises large and small.

I had a privileged job and got to meet some of the most incredible colleagues.

Before getting involved in politics, I grew up in Blackpool where I finished my A-Levels, but broke that traditional political mould by not going to university and being raised by my grandparents who saved me from going into a foster home. Having had a brief stint working at Travis Perkins, I joined CCHQ as a Campaign Manager at the tender age of 18 and I have never looked back since.

Having led a varied career which saw me run campaigns, oversee huge literature prints before moving into people management and providing political and operational advice, I finally decided to leave my role which I did in December 2024. Having overseen the 2024 leadership election and successful transition to the new leader, I left my role and I am now on the lookout for new opportunities.

A lot of what I have been up to since leaving CCHQ has been volunteering and spending the time doing things which I have had not had the opportunity to do. So here, I want to share my thoughts on why leaders are making the decisions they are, share insights on the considerations I believe they will be going through with their teams and share my thoughts on some issues which I am passionate about. I want to stress, this site is not an agony aunt site for me, not a place where I will try and make myself sounds really important with overinflated stories and it is most certainly not a place where I will share stories from my time in politics - this is about what is happening in the hear and now.
